Abstract
the character element, as the main construction fund of every story, plays a significant role in the procedure of processing the plot, shaping the events and moving forward in any narrative text. The book of “Al-avasef” written by Gibran contains some short stories in which the author considers and cares about character element and methods of its processing. In the present study, with the aim of identifying the ability of Gibran in processing of fictional characters and on the basis of descriptive–analytical method, the definitions and classifications of character have firstly been presented and in the following, stories of this collection have been analyzed in the two realm of character types (static, dynamic, comprehensive and simple) and characterization methods (direct and indirect description: act, action, dialogue and name). The results of this research indicate that the most of the characters in this collection are of static and simple type, and among the charact
erization methods, the dialogue and direct description have the most frequency in comparison with the other methods.

Image or artistic picture represents an imaginative process that give artistic meaning to speech. This is a process that uncovers hidden meaning and conveys the mental concepts of the writer to the audience and makes his intended meanings much deeper. The reflections of the use of this literary device in classical Arabic works and the high frequency of their use in The Holy Quran and in Nahjul-Balaghah shows the status of this technique in the literature of the old times. This paper takes a quick glance at the use of the technique of imagery in Arabic and in the Holy Quran. Then it explores the eloquence of Imam Ali’s (p.b.u.h) speech in Nahjul-Balaghah in the light of the use of imagery. Example images used in this classical work for the description of religion, piety, and mistakes are used to explain how the behavior of people with favoritism during the reign of Othman is depicted. The study indicates that Imam Ali (p.b.u.h) uses images from the moving and the stagnant aspect of nature to make the intangible more tangible and to add to the eloquence of his speech.

This Essay is a narrative study of the novel “Beggar” (AL Shahaz) by Naguib Mahfouz (the renowned Egyptian writer). A noticeable part of this research has been allocated to the narrative style of the novel in which discussions such as point of view, focalization, speech-expression method and thoughts have been examined. In this article, in addition to narration, discussions like title, opening, description, simile, semiotics of characters’ names and place too have been analyzed from semiotic perspective.
The primary outcome achieved from this composition is that the novel Beggar, having a semi-complicated plus polyphonic narration, along with using techniques such as mise en abyme or poetics of narration, is the is archetype of Naguib Mahfouz’s third-phase literary course which is known as the philosophic realism or semi-psychological stage.

Literature is a significant part of culture in each society and could illustrate a whole gamut of events and phenomena that have been unfolded before the eyes of a nation over various historical eras. These events have been a force to guide nations through the turns and twists of history. The solid bond between literature and society is a bridge by which the dominant atmosphere of a society in different ages could be illustrated and redesigned from the critical viewpoint of devoted scholars. Therefore, literature could be considered as the cultural identity of each nation. Each line of literature reveals untold secrets of the fate of those who lived and passed away years ago. Thus, literature is not only a part of culture, but it is also the dynamic and revealing component with a number of lessons to offer and learn from.

Reading the Arabian poems attributed to pre-Islamic era, especially Mu’allaqat, one constantly faces a widespread linguistic phenomenon that somehow impedes the process of understanding “the signified” and the meaning of the poems. This linguistic technique is characterized by deletion of the qualified and replacement of one or more qualifiers for it. The phenomenon is today discussed in some references on meaning and locution as “figurative language based on qualifier” and in some others as “figurative semantic collocation”. The researcher hypothesises that the occurrence of this linguistic usage in pre-Islamic Arabian poetry is not a superficial and accidental occurrence, but a linguistic approach realized in the “syntagmatic axis” aimed at enriching the literariness of speech, being an eloquent selection much in line with the temperaments of those nomadic desert dwellers. In the present paper, this common linguistic occurrence is investigated in meaningful and basic connection with geography, thought, and culture of the pre-Islamic Arabs and their life conditions. The findings indicate that the process of deletion of the qualified and transfer of meaning to the qualifier creates a kind of succinctness and empowers the representational character, leading to better dynamicity of the reader’s mind.

Adages and aphorism, notwithstanding their differences, are considered to be the most veridical of literary tools, revealing nations’ internal and external mentalities. As the garnish of words along with a means of bolstering the power of argument, they have been prevalent in all literary eras and constitute one of the major, precious branches of literate and are credible documents of bygone customs, culture, and traditions, through which forebears’ thoughts and opinions together with their ways of reflection and mentalities can be laid bare. Undoubtedly, among the symbols of every country’s culture, civilization and literature are its adages and aphorism or apothegms and sage sayings, exuding from the mind and thoughts of elites of science and literature or the common people of a land, spreading mouth to mouth, from one generation to the next. All the living languages of the world, specifically Persian, are replete with adages and aphorisms, each with its own specific sweetness and beauty, in its place, denoting opulent tastes, thoughts, and euphemism in rendering meaning, so much so that multifarious opuses based on nations’ and people’s culture have been penned. Adages and aphorism are, in fact, the very popular customs, traditions, and renditions, endued with anecdotes, religious teachings, hints, preaching, and advices, forming the basic structure of social, political, religious, and cultural life in human societies in the light of which, people and generations find their identity. Iran, with an ancient, historical background, is the land of adages and aphorisms and a
