Abstract

The image of love is one of the fundamental themes in both literature and psychology. It constitutes the foundation of life and the essence of existence — a creative force and a hidden secret that unites all particles of being. Abdul-Wahhab Al-Bayati, the eminent Iraqi poet, perceives love in his poetry as a generative power and the very essence of existence. Hence, in his poetic universe, love transcends personal emotion and transforms into a human, social, and mystical experience, as he regards love as the essence of human liberation. This study, adopting a mythological-critical approach and a descriptive-analytical method, explores the manifestations of love in Al-Bayati’s poetry through the psychological concepts of the persona and the shadow. The final findings indicate that the concept of love in Al-Bayati’s poetic world follows an evolutionary process in which the poet moves beyond social and mythic masks, confronts his inner shadow, and ultimately attains existential transformation, resurrection, and immortality. From this perspective, love in Al-Bayati’s works is not merely an emotional force but a path toward self-discovery, connection with the unconscious, and the realization of existential wholeness.Love in Abdul Wahab Al-Bayati's poetry transcends the context of history, civilization, myth, politics, and experiences of travel and exile, and becomes a constructive and regenerative force. In his poetic world, love is not only a personal and sensual experience; it is also a power that can cause the revival, regeneration, and cultural and historical revitalization of a land from the heart of suffering and destruction
