Ghada al-Samman is an Arab poet and writer who reacted in her poetry against the wrong beliefs and ideologies of community. This study aims to use Norman Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis to reflect on the most important issues of Arab community in Ghada al- Samman's poems, explaining the relationship between poetry (as a text) and society at three levels: description, interpretation, and explanation. It was found that women and homeland are two of the most prominent issues of Al-Saman’s poems. They are depicted with a critical look at the history and cultural context. In his poem collection, Al- Samman tries to address the most important problems of women, the male-dominated culture of society, and the everlasting wars in Arab world and its effects on people's lives by taking a ridiculous and critical approach. Protesting on the political and social conditions of society, the critical look at the status of women and the cultural context of the society about women are two of the most important issues of al-Saman's poems. This study aimed to answer two questions: What are the most important social issues raised in Ghada Al-Samman's poems based on Norman Fairclough's theory? How was she able to convey these topics using words? The study showed that the poems of this collection are the result of her own experiences, reflections, and thoughts about war and its harmful effects on the lives of people in society, especially women. Gender, ethnicity, and homeland are among the most important themes that Al-Saman has paid attention to.

Critical discourse analysis, by involving factors such as ideology and power, has a better linguistic capability than other methods. Laclau and Mouffe's theory is suitable for explaining social and political phenomena due to the introduction of critical discourse analysis to the world of politics and society. The main purpose of this study was to analyze the critical discourse of Ahlam Nasr's poems as a poet of "Islamic state of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) using Laclau and Muffe’s theory. The importance of the present study is the need to recognize the ideas of ISIL propagandists to counter their actions in the community. The findings showed that the central signifier of this discourse is the formation of the Islamic Caliphate and jihad, migration, conquest of the world and Sharia are detailed around it. Based on the empty signifier of the early centuries of Islam, Ahlam Nasr has proposed the central signifier of the formation of the caliphate. The floating sign in his poems is an example of the twelve caliphs of Quraysh who introduce him to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi by using the title of “Al-Husseini”. The central symbol and discourse are highlighted in these poems, as well as the concept of security in the government of Bashar al-Assad and nationalist symbols such as language and race. Ahlam Nasr, by comparing “Abu Bakr Baghdadi” to “Ibrahim” (AS) and ISIS to the companions of the Prophet (PBUH) and associating the battle of “Qadisiyah” and the defeat of the Iranians, has metaphorized the discourse of his poems and thus a bright future free of problems. And thus promises a good future, free of current problems, for the people of ISIL-dominated areas. The result showed that the spirit of Salafism and hostility dominates the discourse of ISIL, which is reflected in the poems of Ahlam Nasr and the actions of ISIL.

Discourse analysis is using as an interdisciplinary approach in studies and various social domains. Critical Discourse Analysis Rooted in Critical Linguistics Among the multiple types of discourse analysis are Norman Fairclough. In his critical discourse analysis, Fairclough examines the description, interpretation of the interaction between context and discourse and explains how the social structure and address work in both. A study of the novel "War in Egypt" by Yusuf al-Qaeda using Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach and responding to the quality of critical analysis of the novel's discourse at the levels of description, interpretation, and explanation. It is clear that the author creates semantic contrasts and contradictions at the level of the story, and the use of specific words seeks to express his thoughts. Furthermore, it pays attention to the situational context, presuppositions, and contexts of the discourse at the level of interpretation. It represents its framework and subject matter in the form of novels and through addresses. At the level of explanation, it intends to depict the effect of social structure on the type of discourse and the impact of reproduction that this discourse can have on changing the format
